Medication isn't effective for everyone. NeuroStar TMS offers a safe, non-invasive in-office treatment without the common side effects of antidepressants. TMS uses focused magnetic pulses, similar to an MRI, to reignite dormant synapses in the brain and help your brain function the way it was meant to. It is not a drug, “shock” therapy, or surgery. Learn more about this alternative option for treating depression!
Many NeuroStar patients begin to notice improvements within 2 to 3 weeks of treatment. This can manifest as a better mood, fewer depressive days, and a greater willingness to interact with others. Often, friends and family may observe these changes before the patients themselves. It's important to complete the entire 6-week course of NeuroStar treatment for the best chance of achieving long-lasting relief from depression.
Each 19-minute session involves placing a cushioned coil against your head, delivering magnetic pulses to the brain area that regulates mood. You might experience a tapping, tingling, or warming sensation at the coil site, which typically diminishes with further treatments. You'll remain awake and alert throughout the session and can immediately return to your regular activities afterward.

The NeuroStar Advanced Therapy System is indicated for the treatment of depressive episodes and for decreasing anxiety symptoms for those who may exhibit comorbid anxiety symptoms in adult patients suffering from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and who failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from previous antidepressant medication treatment in the current episode.
The NeuroStar Advanced Therapy system is intended to be used as an adjunct for the treatment of adult patients suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is only available by prescription. A doctor can help decide if NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is right for you. Patients’ results may vary.
The most common side effect is pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site. These events are transient; they occur during the TMS treatment course and do not occur for most patients after the first week of treatment. There is a rare risk of seizure associated with the use of TMS therapy (<0.1% per patient).
